Sentenced

Anybody here know what Jose Padilla actually did? According to this article, almost nothing was brought before trial. Despite this alleged fact, he was convicted and sentenced to 17 years. After being held without any charges for three and half years in a Navy brig. Then another two years in solitary confinement. Without an attorney. An American citizen. Tortured, apparently by “third degree methods”.

I’m not defending the dude, no idea what he really did. I doubt we will ever know. But I’m deeply ashamed at my government and how it goes about defining “enemy combatants” and kidnaps and tortures whoever the hell it wants.

It would not surprise me in the least if Padilla is not guilty of anything other then opposing his government, which according to his alleged method of treatment, he has (had) every right to oppose. His “conviction” could be nothing more then “saving face” by an out of control diabolical system that refuses to admit any wrong doing and desperately executes it’s mistakes. Lest we forget, we have documented evidence now (and have had for many, many decades) of outrageous lies that have been perpetrated by our government.

At this point, we should have hordes of people pressing on the iron fences of the White House, armed with pitchforks, baseball bats and cattle prods, ready to storm the place and wreak vengeance. Where are the angry relatives of dead and maimed soldiers? Where are the idealistic students? Where are the taxpayers who’ve been robbed blind? Where’s the outraged Congress? Where are the incensed editorialists in the media?

They’re all at home, swilling brew and playing with the remote. No excitement here. I rather like that last sentence in that link above, “A government based upon lies is by definition a dictatorship”. It doesn’t make a lick of difference whose fat ass is occupying the White House throne, a government that is self-serving is dangerous as hell.

No matter, what’s done is done and they’ve thrown away the key to our Constitutional protections and destroyed the locks. Padilla’s case is something everyone should be aware of, because it shows just how easy it is today to be carted away. American citizens are in imminent and grave danger these days from their government, as the term “terrorist” and “enemy combatant” are slung around like Frisbees by an out of control security apparatus.

Masters of war by Bob Dylan

    Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
    You that hide behind walls
    You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

    You that never done nothin’
    But build to destroy
    You play with my world
    Like it’s your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
    When the fast bullets fly

    Like Judas of old
    You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
    You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
    That runs down my drain

    You fasten the triggers
    For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
    You hide in your mansion
    As young people’s blood
    Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

    You’ve thrown the worst fear
    That can ever be hurled
    Fear to bring children
    Into the world
    For threatening my baby
    Unborn and unnamed
    You ain’t worth the blood
    That runs in your veins

    How much do I know
    To talk out of turn
You might say that I’m young
    You might say I’m unlearned
But there’s one thing I know
    Though I’m younger than you
    Even Jesus would never
    Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
    Is your money that good
    Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
    I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
    All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
    And your death’ll come soon
    I will follow your casket
    In the pale afternoon
And I’ll watch while you’re lowered
    Down to your deathbed
And I’ll stand o’er your grave
‘Til I’m sure that you’re dead

In a related story, you better not get on board a plane with any suspicious kind of equipment. Imagine not realizing your duct tape and spare shoestrings landing you jail:

The teen is in custody at Davidson County Juvenile Detention Center, where he faced state charges, but Bolds did not comment on what the charges were. He said he expects federal charges to come.

Bolds said the teen was calm throughout the flight and never made an attempt to hijack the plane but told the FBI after he was apprehended about his original plans to commandeer the aircraft.

The Transportation Security Administration did not immediately return a message seeking comment to determine if the items were banned from air travel. TSA did not list the items the teen was carrying on its Web site as prohibited.
