Prosecute The Traitor

Only the brain dead deniers infecting this dystopian “America” would still be claiming that the 2020 election was “stolen” after yesterday’s widely broadcast hearing by the January 6th Committee.

Not too interestingly, the same round of rabid propaganda networks are claiming all kinds of asinine connedspiracies while flatly denying all the evidence gathered to date – which is stunningly impressive. Over 140,000 documents have been gathered along with thousands of testimonies, phone records, text messages and more. They all paint the obvious fact that anyone who actually watched the events unfolding on 1/6/2020 already knew beyond a shadow of doubt – Donald J. Trump is a traitor to the United States of America.

His failed coup attempt deserves prosecution, with ideally, the same fate that he’s loudly proclaiming he wanted for Mike Pence, Vice Present (then) of the United States – hanging.

Per her opening statement, Cheney outlined that the hearings would focus on the following. Read it and tell me that she wasn’t 100 percent right in sacrificing her leadership position and risking her congressional seat to get the following information, as documented by well-credentialed national security professionals, prosecutors, and former Trump officials, on congressional record and out in public:

1. Trump’s misinformation campaign provoked the violence on January 6th.

2. Trump corruptly planned to replace the Attorney General of the United States so the U.S. Justice Department would spread his false stolen election claims.

3. Trump pressured Vice President Mike Pence to refuse to count electoral votes on January 6th.

4. Trump corruptly pressured state legislators and election officials to change the results.

5. The Trump campaign and other Trump associates instructed Republican officials in multiple states to create intentionally false electoral slates, and transmit those slates to Congress, to the Vice President, and the National Archives, falsely certifying that Trump won states he actually lost.

6. Trump summoned a violent mob and directed them, illegally, to march on the U.S. Capitol.

7. Trump failed to take immediate action to stop the violence and instruct his supporters to leave the Capitol.

All of this will be on display to the American audience–except, of course, where the democratic rot of Trumpism is most profound. Fox News didn’t carry last night’s hearing. In fact, Tucker Carlson’s show ran with no commercial breaks, preferring to lose money rather than risk anyone flipping channels and catching a faint glimpse of reality. 

It’s a shame. They’ll be awash in Trumpist Republicans’ “counterprogramming,” put on by Republicans who in many cases participated in the plot. Which makes it not a savvy Beltway media strategy but a cover-up. That means they’ll never see newly released tape of GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy on Jan. 11, pledging never to sweep the insurrection under the rug and vowing to launch an investigation to hold those responsible accountable. (McCarthy, a witness to Trump’s actions on Jan. 6, refused to tell the truth to the committee, lied about his view that Trump should resign, then did everything he could to kill accountability.) The audience will never have to suffer the cognitive dissonance of testimony and videos reminding them just how revolting Jan. 6 was, only to realize that McCarthy, and many, many other Republicans, once knew it too.

I warned everyone for years here (and elsewhere) that Trump would betray this country, the US Constitution and even his own followers. He did exactly that. Now prosecute this vile scum.

Then go after all the vile traitors that participated in this scheme, and tried to cover it all up. You know who they are. We all do. Cheney was right – their dishonor will never be forgotten.
