Poseidon Death Threat
Russia is building up their military power in the Arctic on a massive scale. As part of this new arsenal, CNN has an interesting article about “tidal wave weapons” called the Poseidon 2M39 torpedo:
This unmanned stealth torpedo (translation here) is powered by a nuclear reactor and intended by Russian designers to sneak past coastal defenses — like those of the US — on the sea floor. The device is intended to deliver a warhead of multiple megatons, according to Russian officials, causing radioactive waves that would render swathes of the target coastline uninhabitable for decades.
So this is what melting ice and the opening of the Northern Sea Route gets the world – more weapons of war, more threats, more desire to control access, resources, shipping, etc. Even “nuclear drones” are said to be coming.
The Poseidon’s are nuclear powered torpedoes, using a very small nuclear reactor, carrying multiple warheads.

In November, Christopher A Ford, then assistant secretary of state for International Security and Non-Proliferation, said the Poseidon is designed to “inundate U.S. coastal cities with radioactive tsunamis.”
From the translation:
The robotic vehicle, which resembles a large torpedo, has an unlimited range thanks to its compact nuclear engine. He is capable of diving up to 1 km depth. Its dimensions make it possible to install on it a powerful warhead, equivalent to several megatons of TNT. This is enough to inflict unacceptable damage to the coastal infrastructure of any potential enemy, as well as to destroy aircraft carrier strike groups. The possibility of installing conventional warheads with explosives on drones was also announced./blockquote>
This is typical human behavior (misery monkeys). Always seek the ‘advantage’, always find a way to exploit, always seek to control, own, dominate. This ‘deterrent’ has no known ability to be stopped if unleashed. You can’t stop a tidal wave, or the spread of radiation once released. Just one torpedo could disable and destroy (sink) an entire carrier group.
Yes, the threat is real, the weapons are now operational. With the sharp rise in Arctic buildup of the Russian military, there is no doubt that they are quite serious about gaining as much control as possible.

Maybe the Russians want Alaska back. After all, it was sold rather cheaply to America.
Joking aside, the ice cover of the Arctic Sea is something I’ve been watching for many years.
Surprisingly, the September ice cover record-low of 2012, due to much storm activity breaking up ice sheets, has not yet been exceeded.
That said, the current ice is composed largely of new-season ice, and practically all the multi-year ice has gone.
We’ll know by August just how dire the situation is.
However, I suspect the financial meltdown will occur before the Artic meltdown generates an ice-free September Arctic.
Once all the sea ice HAS melted, the whole global climatic system goes into a quite different regime, due to no heat of phase change in the Arctic, i.e. all the heat manifests as temperature rises, and the jet stream circulation probably ceases.
We can be certain the ‘captains of industry’ and politicians will ignore the whole matter and pretend everything is going to continue as before.
Misery monkey are going to fight over whats left vs. make the necessary effort to preserve what is needed for life on this planet. I’m still seeing grossly inadequate response to the climate crisis and environmental collapse. It’s just more important to build tidal wave bombs to wipe out a few million humans at a time.
