Laying Waste To The Deep

This is so sad, and so tragic that it belies words: Laying Waste To The Deep

It is truly incomprehensible what we humans are doing to our planet on a global scale. 4/5ths of the Earth’s surface is covered by oceans, which we are treating as a sewage dump and a free-for-all hunting ground.

The Plastic Killing Fields has been covered here before, but well worthy of being read again.

As he looked out at what should have been a clear blue ocean, Moore saw a sea of plastic. As far as he could see, day after day, were bottles, wrappers and fragments of plastic in every colour.

I think despair, which many are now feeling, needs to turn to rage. If we do not get angry, we will not be uncomfortable enough to change our ways.

I wish changing my ways changed the world, but it doesn’t. Not any more than voting (or not voting) changes the policies in this country.

I’ve tried talking to people, but few want to be educated, because they don’t want any unpleasant information getting in the way of them living it up.

I sometimes think the only way I could make a real difference would be to try sabotaging the system somehow, but outside my fantasies, I’m no commando.

And my impotence is the real source of despair… no matter how much of an ascetic lifestyle I live, the ecosystem’s still being destroyed at an ever-increasing rate.

Those who say ‘party like there is no tomorrow’ do have a point.

We live in a house-of-cards built on and supported by hydro-carbons. The whole Earth trembles, shock waves diverge and merge. The volcanos of evolution are increasingly venting ash. 6.5 billion Humpty Dumbty’s [sic] teeter on a precipice. Most have a god up there ass and fear in their heart. All fall down.

I (well) understand the feelings of impotence. I’m constantly struggling why I even bother anymore. It’s like pissing into a hurricane.

… like a sand flea farting into a Saharan harmattan (wind storm).

… like a biped on Jupiter (with an immense gravity yet has no ‘surface’) – aka ‘no there there’.
