The reason I’m posting this is over the weekend I watched a few shows on television (Netflix actually) recently. After one showing, I stopped and asked my wife this question, “What could we be doing with our lives if we stopped watching T.V. altogether?”. And “How much time are we wasting here?”.
Since I pretty much hate everything on “television”, I’ll only watch movies, but this isn’t any excuse for wasting my life. Movies are fake, make-believe “programming” that is supposed to “entertain” you. But is that what is really going on?
Commercials are especially high on my dislike list. Most of them are targeting brains already made into mental mush. In between all the items that they insist you “must have” in order to feel good about yourself, you’re bombarded with all the useless crap Corporate America insists you buy.
So I took the time to compile what it means to watch television in brain-dead America. The average is 5 hours, 11 minutes per day. This equates to 1865 hours per year with your eyes glued to the screen, dead to the rest of the world. Your life, your very existence is ticking away as you sit there and watch the flickering images….
If you stay awake an average of 16 hours per day, then in just 1 year, you’ve spent 116 days (nearly 4 months) of your life in front of the idiot box. That’s 1/4 of EVERY year of your life virtually wasted, pissed away doing nothing.
This is a staggering figure and accounts for the brain-dead awareness (and apathy) of the American population, who only know what they’re being told through the media.
In a decade of brainwashing, you’ve now lost over 3 YEARS of your life watching television. That is INSANE BEHAVIOR being practiced and encouraged by hundreds of millions of people.
The only real value anyone actually has is TIME. Everything else can be replaced. Time however, is linear for humans. We can never replace what we have “spent” (lived) or even how we lived. We can find new jobs, new homes or even a new wife (sorry, I’m keeping mine) if we must, but the time we spend living our lives is literally “irreplaceable”.
Imagine what you could do if you could get back just 3 years of your life every decade. Or over 3 or 4 decades of media brainwashing, 10 years or more!
People spend BILLIONS trying to look younger, feel younger, get that “something back” that they lost through time and age, when it is SO SIMPLE. Kill your television. Stop watching the damned thing and get your life back!
I remember watching some clip (ironic, isn’t it?) where the guy exclaimed, “Americans are infatuated with screens!”. Indeed we are. We can’t seem to stop.
If these figures only represent television, what kind of time are we spending staring at cell phones or texting? Do we even care?
Our disconnect from each other and from all the life that is going on around us is staggeringly huge. It’s not wonder American do not really seem to care about anything. They’re simply too distracted.
Right now, there is a lot of discontent and polarization going on in this country. We cannot seem to agree on anything, nor can we seem to accomplish anything either. It’s no bloody wonder why. We’ve completely lost the ability to even think for ourselves. So as you sit and read this article on yet another “screen”, I encourage every single one of you to stop doing this. Go read a book. Take a walk. Visit a library. Meet your neighbor. Ride a bike. Enjoy the sunset. Let your newly discovered “free time” be free of the idiot box and all of it’s derivatives and you will gain YEARS back in your life.
Don’t let these corporate media / brainwashing barons rob you anymore.
