A pretty important update on climate change from Dr. James Hansen (video): Why I must speak up about climate. (TED)

A “must watch” if you care to listen to one of the world’s leading scientist on climate.

The updated estimates (by 2100, your children will still be alive then, maybe) are 50% species loss (extinction), are up to 18 feet in rising sea levels, the loss of all low coastlines (worldwide) and at the present moment (right now), the Earth’s energy imbalance is equivalent to 400,000 Hiroshima atomic bombs going off every single day, 365 days per year.

Very sobering news for those of you who have not yet understood the terrifying impacts that are (already) occurring.

Climate Progress has also released something important:

New scientific findings since the 2007 IPCC report are found to be more than twenty times as likely to indicate that global climate disruption is “worse than previously expected,” rather than “not as bad as previously expected.”

I’ve long held the public (posted) and private opinion that scientific reticence, and the inability to correlate the data across many various disciplines, has led to woefully short “under estimates” on how severe climate impacts will be. What is now very clear, is this has proven to be very true. Past estimates, and even the still-present current estimates, are constantly being revised and updated to reflect the growing body of evidence that climate impacts are going to be far worse then the “worst case scenarios” once thought ludicrous.

Fire Earth has been issuing near daily “State of Emergency” bulletins from around the world, including here in America.  Drought, torrential rainfall and flooding are causing extreme havoc in many localities, impacting agriculture, food prices, and increasingly, the ability of humans to live in these locations. The recent (and very early) tornadoes are a result of warming, and are expected to be the new “normal”.

A few days ago, I spotted a Robin on my deck, looking rather bedraggled.  Even when I got very close, the bird just sat there.  There is still a fair bit of snow on the ground, but it is warming up here very fast. This article explains why such birds are “confused“.  Don’t know what the little guy was going to eat, there was nothing out there for him. And that, will be a concern for every being on this planet, the way things are going.

I’ve been extremely busy here, dealing with a giant rush of orders flooding in. Whether the war drums are beating or whether people are finally waking up, the demand for food supplies is growing again.
