I’m surprised to hear all those quotes from people who think it’s a great idea to have frighteningly well-armed police everywhere.
Bigger and better guns only help them frighten and kill more efficiently. It’s not as though we could stop bombers from blowing up trains if only we had bigger guns, but somehow people think these guns will help “fight the terrorists”.
If we’re lucky, it’s just more useless security theatre, but the cynic in me says it’s yet another step towards a dark future…

A Marine friend of mine, who used to be a fascist (I have an interesting mix of friends) Is appalled at this. He points out that there was exactly ONE time when the police in the US were up against a group with fully automatic weapons, that was in the 90’s, that North Hollywood bank robbery thing. He points out that police are not well trained with the weapons they have been using all along, missing their targets almost as much as badguys on tv do.
Oh, AND it sure doesn’t make him feel safer, either.

Sub machineguns (SMG’s) are exactly the LAST thing anyone charged with public security would want to have, at least if it were being used in either fully automatic or burst firing mode. Public security, by its nature, means that you try to minimize casualties among the general population. A SMG’s main purpose is to act as a visual deterent. It says “Don’t mess with me; I’m a trained professional who will KILL you if you mess with me.”. The problem with this is that terrorists, as defined by the media and as experienced by the public, don’t care whether they live or die so long as they take a bunch of people with the. This new approach now means they don’t even need to use a bomb.
Imagine someone going into a crowded subway guarded by multiple police with SMG’s after making telephone threats to the police, possibly on dozens of occassions to the point where they feel it is just someone crying “Wolf!”. They yell out “Allah Akbar! Allah Akbar!” while running towards the most nervous policeman they can find while holding out something that looks like it can detonate a bomb. SMG’s come out and mow down the Terrorist along with 20-30 innocent bystanders. They find no bomb but the media reports (with the help of surveillance video) that the person was a terrorist anyways because of his demeanor and actions.

It’s a known fact that cops are very poorly trained. Yearly qualification is something like 50 - 100 rounds at the range per year. I don’t recall the exact number, but it’s appalling.
Doesn’t matter anyway from my perspective. The Supreme Court has ruled multiple times that they have absolutely no obligation to protect anyone. Those machine guns are there for them — don’t ever forget that.
What all this smoke and mirrors is about it to convince the sheep that there is a real threat - except their too stupid to know who the real threat is coming from (it’s the dudes carrying the machine guns and the people calling the shots behind them).
We are entering into a very dangerous time, where our “protectors” have become our prison guards. We already know they all lie about every event and circumstance that “requires” them to bust down doors, search cars and shoot people, the stories on this malfeasance is now in the thousands.
Allmightydollar is right - won’t make a damned bit of difference now when they start shooting totally innocent people, you’ll still be a terrorist with that pen in your pocket that could “injure and maim” or that briefcase that looked like a bomb. Even your shoes will be suspect, you could be a shoe-bomber.
The whole show is about browbeating SHEEP. If Americans had any balls at all, they’d go up to these guys enmasse and tell ‘em to pack up their shit and get the hell out of their streets and neighborhoods. But that ain’t going to happen.
Anybody besides me notice that there has not been any terrorist events ANYWHERE in this country (9/11 does not count) to justify this shit?
But we stand around and let this happen, because nobody wants to make waves or stand out. If they did — they’d stand alone and be swiftly kicked into submission. Just go watch the YouTube videos of police abuse, people just stand around and let their fellow citizens get the shit kicked out of them for skateboarding or some other “major crime”. Unbelievable. Only in Amerika.

I went to Satansway, I mean Safeway myself just a little while ago. It’s late Friday, but it was busy as hell. Just wait till the real rushes start, they’ll be using armed guards to escort shoppers (or defending the premises).
