Western U.S. Faces More Drought
343 ViewsA new study out reveals that the western United States will experience higher drought conditions due to global climate change. It’s a bit ironic, considering our current snowfall levels, but they’ve accounted for that too:
Those findings may come as a surprise this year, when the West is getting so much snow that skiers and snowmobilers are dying in avalanches in places that normally don’t get that much snow.
50 years of data and computer modeling have led researched to believe that drought will now affect much of the West. This will lead to more forest fires, topsoil loss, even power generation failures.

In my LDS ward (neighborhood) lives a man who is a wheeler-dealer investor, a devout GOP-capitalist. A few weeks ago he was telling me eagerly about “we” in Utah “have as much oil as Saudi Arabia” (in shale formations), and that now with new technology it can be profitably extracted — needless to say I could see the dollar signs in his eyes.
These Mormon wankers are planning to tear up a third of Utah and Wyoming and Colorado just so as they can be the new rich American Sheiks for a generation or two.
Environmentalists are only tolerated as long as they’re ineffective, of course. Only a systemic collapse can stop this. So let’s hope the power failures happen first.

That’s a pretty accurate assessment. Bush just opened up 3 million acres in Alaska for logging, mining and road building. The folks in Utah, Colorado, Wyoming - hell everywhere, are no different.
Dissent and / or environmentalism are tolerated only as long as it isn’t seriously problematic. Who do you think will occupy the camps? It won’t be the capitalists (who control the armies, the banks and the assets), it’s be anyone and everyone that disagrees, objects, or refuses to go along with the “agenda”.

There is no need for a drought to bring things to a head, the three foot a year depletion of the main fossil aquifer out west will bring agriculture to a halt anyway. All the drought does is speed up the inevitable. The west is so out of balance on water consumption now it is just off the charts.
I am especially grateful for two things, the conversion of scarce, declining water and food to biofuel, and most importantly, that “somebody will figure out something, someday”. Now I can sleep at night.
It would be nice if there was just one crisis, but there are so many converging simultaneously. We are way past bricks in toilet tanks and substituting one compact fluorescent bulb. Thank god for the audacity of hope. Let me hear an amen!
