This is an excellent package to get started with. Are there drawbacks to this package? Yes, there are a couple:

  • Appetite fatigue caused by eating the same things day in and day out. But it will keep you alive!
  • A few people are allergic to wheat. (We can substitute rice or whatever grain you want if this is the case with you. However, almost everyone's digestive system can get accustomed to wheat in a short period of time.)

You add to this package:

  • Four gallons cooking oil for your fatty acid requirements (See note 2 below.) As oil doesn't store over long periods of time, purchase this item every year and rotate it in and out of your food supply.
  • A multi-vitamin supplement as 4 vitamins are low in this package. We offer an excellent multi vitamin / mineral supplement if you choose to get your vitamins from us.

Notes:

1: The calories in this package for a man are a little low, and is the only place this package is low in nutrients with the suggested incidentals. Adding 4 gallons of oil will increase calories to 2,713. Why oil? See note 2.
2: The DRV says that at least 30% of your calories should come from fat. Dietitians suggest that for even a low fat diet, at least 20% of your calories should come from fat. Adding 4 gallons of cooking oil to this package, which is not included, will increase your daily calorie intake of fat from 180 to 542 calories per day. With the oils naturally occurring in the foods, this represents 19% of the calories in a 2,900 calorie diet.
3: This is not a problem as the body can make it's own cholesterol.
4: Correct this with a good multi-vitamin/mineral supplement.
5: Sprouting the beans before cooking will satisfy this requirement. Or correct this with a good multi-vitamin/mineral supplement.
6: Correct this with a good multi-vitamin/mineral supplement.
7: Correct this with a good multi-vitamin/mineral supplement.
8: For that 4 gallons of cooking oil you need, if you use sunflower or Canola cooking oil, it will provide 242% of the estimated daily requirement.
9: There has been no RDA/ DRV established for this nutrient.
