Massive Permafrost Thaw Documented in Canada, Portends Huge Carbon Release

Desdemona has a new article, Massive Permafrost Thaw Documented in Canada, Portends Huge Carbon Release, with the original article here. I don’t comment on Desdemona anymore, Jim started censoring commentary some time back.

This type of melting was expected and would account for the escalating levels of methane being detected. Once you grasp the scale of what’s happening, you’ll quickly realize that it is virtually impossible for this process to reverse itself. You’d have to have a seriously long deep-freeze to restore the frozen soil temperatures – and then you’d still be left with the billions of tons of CO₂ and methane still left in the atmosphere, raising temperatures higher and higher.

Tide Rising

A very welcome (and timely) donation from Charles (France) of $400 was received! Thank you Charles!

I was planning on closing down the blog and shutting off the Internet at the end of this month, but this has made it possible for me to keep the lights on here for a while longer.

Two books were passed into my hands to read, which I’d like to recommend:

Climate Change Will Devastate Civilization

I’ve issued an alert to whoever will find this and take the time to read it: Climate Change Will Devastate Civilization

Every day, I’m trying to digest more and more articles on climate change, sea level rise and environmental collapse. I can’t keep up. It’s usually about 50 – 70 articles a day pouring in. If ever there was a time to start screaming and sounding the alarm bells, it’s right now.

The LIFE Project – Strategic Initiative for Reduced Human Survival

LIFE Project – Strategic Initiative for Reduced Human Survival

Profound impacts on global climate, ecosystems and human society caused by climate change and the resulting effects on human civilization are projected to be serious to severe throughout the entire world. Extensive study of the published literature and science underscores a distinct possibility that human extinction may even occur, along with nearly all of the life within the living biosphere. The Life Project proposes creation of protected bio-regional zones and habitation for human and biological survival (non-human life) on every habitable continent selected to ensure continuity of life for the human race and as many other species as possible.

Decline

I was recently asked by a young woman what my definition of freedom was. I thought for a moment and replied, “Without coercion”. She got quiet and pondered the meaning of what I meant.

I do not support the State. Coercion is a defining principle in any controlling entity. I recognize the need for the State, but that does not change my opinion about it. The State is most likely the logical outcome of a coercive and combined effort of former individuals who established their definitions of “common interests”. It is self-perpetuating, generation after generation, an entity unto itself, but neither alive or dead.

Genocide In The Philippines

I spotted this over on Desdemona Despair, but the original article is here which you should really look at and ponder what this means. The police, under the instructions of the Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, are engaged in a genocidal war, killing thousands and thousands of people in the Philippines.

This is why the people should never be disarmed. I’m not endorsing drug use, but whenever political power is used to wield oppressive and deadly force over a population, the people need to rise up and put a stop to it themselves. If you read the article, you will swiftly realize that there is no lawful actions taking place, no due process, no trials, no justice, just outrageous murder by police summary execution style for thousands of people. That’s genocide.

Tomorrow Will Not Be Like Today

This is what Amerika is facing (again) if the Whore of Babylon is (s)Elected: When Iraq Was Clinton’s War.

If you feel as if you do not have choice in the upcoming (s)Election, you’d be right. The media is in league with the power brokers of this fucked up country and has made it perfectly clear to all of us who they intend to (s)Elect (for us). I don’t know if they can pull it off. But I do know for certain that the future won’t be anything like today.

The Food of Civilization

The main point, indeed the entire purpose of every civilization throughout all of human history is to ensure a full belly for its participants. This essential need for all human life is the primary and fundamental driving force for the creation of everything that we know as civilization.  Roads, cities, villages and towns, highways, freeways, airports, strip malls, business centers, industry, fabrication, mining and forestry — it has all been built and constructed so that humans could have full bellies and enough to eat — and the assurances that come tomorrow, it will be the same.

Are YOU Prepared For Disaster?

Most people should be aware of the huge fires at Ft. McMurry, Alberta and the evacuation of an entire city. Unfortunately, mega-fires are going to become the norm for most locations.

You read that right – most locations. You don’t have to be in the middle of a forest to be effected by higher temperatures and drought conditions. You just need to be anywhere there is flammable fuel and that applies to every city and town in the world.

Climate Manifesto

Pretty sure I’ve not published this link before: Climate Manifesto. Plenty there to get your doom on for the weekend. The gist of it is it’s bad and it’s going to get worse, and all of our dickering around pretty much ensures our extinction.

A few comments: There is no saving civilization. I’m pretty sure that there are already survival “caves” being constructed (I’ve been invited). I also don’t agree with several most of the action plan points. Their weak, ineffective and wrong-headed and will fail to accomplish enough.

Summary: Why We Are Failing To Save Civilization – We Have Seriously Underestimated the Existential Threats Facing Humanity

Humans are incredibly naive. I see this everywhere, even among the most learned, respected people in the world. Some of the brightest minds have issued stark warnings on what lies ahead, but then turn right around and make unfounded claims that things are going to work out. This has always puzzled me, but cognitive dissonance isn’t something Harvard graduates are immune to – it affects us all.

Surviving the Horde

They were munching, marching, stumbling, crowding through everything — eating their way down to the last grain and morsels to be found. I couldn’t believe my eyes!

Death was arriving at my door, what was I to do? I’m afraid, very afraid, they’re going to find me, crunch my bones, eat my flesh, steal my food. I am dead… dead…

The Problem with Industrial Civilization

Quote:
The Problem with Industrial Civilization
Aric McBay

This booklet is an excerpt from a larger book project which is in the works, called In the Wake: A Collective Manual-in-Progress for Outliving Civilization. This project, and my writings and life in general, are based on the premise that industrial civilization is destroying the world and exploiting and murdering the inhabitants of the world. I believe that industrial civilization is not capable of doing anything else, whatever political party (or corporation, or American-installed military dictator) is “in charge”.

What to do in a failing civilization

Copyright  2005 David M. Delaney

Can global civilization adapt successfully to degradation of the biosphere and depletion of fossil fuels? I argue that it cannot. Important elements of all constituent societies would have to be reformed. Reform would have to be radical and would be uncertain of success. It could be undertaken only in the presence of incontrovertible necessity?a necessity that will reveal itself incontrovertibly only when catastrophic collapse has become unavoidable. I conclude that those who seek to preserve civilization should plan for its survival in restricted regions.
