Netflix has a incredibly vapid movie called “American Meme” that depicts social media ‘celebrities’ cashing in on the social media craze. I forced myself to watch this all the way through. The only celebrity in the movie that I’ve ever heard of was Paris Hilton, but I didn’t have any idea who any of the other celebrities were despite their hundreds of millions of followers.
While I “get” why people complain about the effects of climate change, it’s hard to get on board with them when they insist on rebuilding in the exact same spots as before. You cannot keep doing the same things over and over again and expect different results. Especially so when climate change just means worse and worse every year.
The refusal by the Repugnatin leadership to ‘discuss climate change’ is downright criminal now. Claiming that this in an ‘inappropriate time’ is a pathetic attempt to declare that there is never a appropriate time to discuss what has become the nation’s #1 problem.
Not only should Trump be impeached, but every RepublicRat that denies climate change should be removed from office, asap. (Example: The president’s dismissal of scientific research is doing nothing to protect the livelihoods of ordinary Americans).
According to this study, Extreme Weather Can’t Change Climate Change Beliefs, even hurricanes will not change beliefs about climate change.
Those in denial stay in denial, no matters how fast the waters rise.
So this is going to mean what I’ve long suspected. Nothing much will actually get done about climate change, thereby committing the world to absolute, total catastrophe. There will be endless talk and discussion and a little action, but overall, we will refuse to accept reality.
This is another ominous development (found this over on Rice Farmer).
It’s got a limited reach – for now. But it’s still illegal and against the Constitution. Passed and approved. Trump also approved military equipment for domestic law enforcement, rolling back the Obama ban on this activity. So now we have martial law to look forward to – while they kick your door down without probable cause or Constitutional authority.
Desdemona has an article title “Global sea level rise accelerates since 1990 – Greenland ice largely responsible for the accelerating pace of sea-level rise”
“The annual rate of sea level rise increased to 3.3 millimeters (0.13 inch) in 2014 – a rate of 33 centimeters (13 inches) if kept unchanged for a century”
It is this kind of bogus reporting that continues to deceive a uncaring public. The take away is “oh, it’s just 13 inches over a hundred years, no big deal” when the REAL sea level increase will be over 9 feet (108 inches) in that time period.
If Donald Trump has a dangerous mental illness, according to a group a psychiatrists, what does this say about his supporters?
Mental health experts claimed the President was “paranoid and delusional”, and said it was their “ethical responsibility” to warn the American public about the “dangers” Mr Trump’s psychological state poses to the country.
Phys.org has a new article on the methane clathrate issue. It’s an easy read – suggest you read this before finishing my post here.
I’m going to jump right to the point, assuming you’ve now read the article. It is this quote:
“We are now witnessing early warning signs of major methane release. If it gets out of control, there will be nothing humans can do to prevent the planet overheating quite rapidly.”
I used to follow some sailing blogs, which eventually led me to some blogs about island life. This is a sad story about how one beautiful island is being ruined.
But like I’ve said so many times before, nobody cares. The cruise ships, tourist industry and even the locals are all busy at work – all a part of the ongoing destruction.
If you want to know what the future is going to be like, just put this picture in your mind: a big, gigantic garbage heap, piled as high as the heavens. Underneath it all, glued to an endless array of screens will be some very pale, fat humans surrounded by even more garbage. Nothing else will be alive other then cockroaches and rats, even the very air will be toxic to breathe, so the air-filtration systems and air conditioners will be working overtime.
It was Joe Romm himself (not a scientist) and many climate scientist that kept spewing the 2°C nonsense for years and years. Their own blinders now (finally) being removed, NOW they claim that this is dangerous – and yet they STILL pretend that we can limit warming under 2°C!
I have always found Romm refusing to admit to the horrible truth. He gets plenty of press coverage and has plenty of opportunity to tell us like it really is – and yet he still weakly pretends that we are still going to be ok.
‘Biggest humanitarian crisis since World War II’ about to engulf 20 million people, UN says, as governments only donate 10 per cent of funds needed for essential aid’.
YAWN. Go back to sleep. The people dying of acute malnutrition aren’t Americans, so what does it matter? Or that this is the largest humanitarian crisis in history?
The Trump agenda is not about putting America first. It’s about putting the privileged (monied) first. The Washington Post has a decent perspective on this, but it doesn’t go quite far enough.
Really, though, Trump’s policy reflects a deeper truth. Climate change denial is not incidental to a nationalist, populist agenda. It’s central to it. And that’s not a coincidence.
Everybody knows the legend of the elephants. When elephants die, they leave their group and go off to die alone, in the “elephants graveyard”. Their bones can be found years later, piled up with the skeletons of many elephants.
Where do corals go to die? They’re animals too, but lacking the ability to move like elephants, they die enmasse in place. And they’re dying all over the world.
This is hilarious. It’s a Pew Research poll, that reveals how much Republican and Democrats differ on “science knowledge” and whether or not science is having any impacts on the two different groups:
Picture this: no matter what the science says, or even when these climatic events actually happen – Republicans refuse to change their “beliefs” about climate change.
It is this kind of attitude, exhibited throughout many of the developed countries (apparently in spades in Australia and the United States) that guarantees total destruction and then extinction of all living species on the planet (except slime, mold, some bacteria and cockroaches).
New studies reveal: Soils could release much more carbon than expected as climate warms
A 30% – 34% increase in carbon release from warming soils was measured in a test plot. This represents a huge increase in carbon release into the atmosphere, if applied around the world it’s an amount equal to 30% annually of all human emissions.
And to add to the joyful fun ahead, Computer models show possible impact to world’s oceans of four major stressors due to climate change
This is another “I told you so” story: Why is the media under-reporting climate change?
“We need the public to be aware that children and even young adults alive today are going to experience the transition to a much more challenging world – unless we make major changes now,” he said.
“Politicians and the private sector respond to the public. So the most important thing is to raise awareness of the risks we’re facing among consumers,” he added.
Desdemona has a new article, Massive Permafrost Thaw Documented in Canada, Portends Huge Carbon Release, with the original article here. I don’t comment on Desdemona anymore, Jim started censoring commentary some time back.
This type of melting was expected and would account for the escalating levels of methane being detected. Once you grasp the scale of what’s happening, you’ll quickly realize that it is virtually impossible for this process to reverse itself. You’d have to have a seriously long deep-freeze to restore the frozen soil temperatures – and then you’d still be left with the billions of tons of CO₂ and methane still left in the atmosphere, raising temperatures higher and higher.

As expected, that idiotic monkey in the Whitehouse has announced the following:
The White House has proposed slashing the overall budget for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration by 17% and eliminating funding for research programs overseen by the agency.
Similar proposals have been sent to the Environmental Protection Agency, which could see its funding cut by nearly 25%.
